The Innikilling Regiments in Africa - 1. The Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902

A six page booklet, with maps, tracing the campaign which both regiments fought in in South Africa.

It begins with the early disastrous defeats by the Boers eg in 1899-1900 when the Inniskilling Fusiliers suffered heavy casualties during the campaign to relieve the town of Ladysmith.

The Dragoons were heavily committed to the pursuit of the Boer armies and the name Laurence Oates first came to notice. He was an officer in the Inniskilling Dragoons who was recommended for bravery decorations.

He later, by joining Captain Scott’s expedition to Antarctica, became famous by sacrificing his life in a vain attempt to save the lives of his companions.
