An eight page booklet summarising the role played by the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot and the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons.
The Dragoons were part of a dramatic and spectacular cavalry charge by the Union Brigade (three regiments, Irish, Scottish and British) at a critical part of the battle.
This event showed both the strength of cavalry and its weakness on the battlefield. The 27th Regiment plugged a hole in Wellington’s line which saved his whole army just when it might have disintegrated.
But this was achieved at great cost to the Inniskillings, who suffered the highest casualty level of any regiment.
